Did You Know?Braintree, a town in Essex, England, is situated 16 km to the north-east of Chelmsford and 24 km to the west of Colchester. The town of Braintree came into prominence since the 17th century when a group of Flemish immigrants was responsible for the prosperity of the woolen cloth trade. Engineering also grew in importance, and during the 20th century the local firms Lake and Elliot and Crittall Ltd became world famous. When the Romans invaded they built two roads a settlement developed at the junction of these roads, but was later abandoned when the Romans left Britain.
