Hull, or Kingston upon Hull, is a port city in East Yorkshire, England. Where the River Hull meets the Humber Estuary, The Deep aquarium is a futuristic building with an underwater viewing tunnel and hands-on displays

It prospered by exporting wool and woollen cloth, and importing wine and timber. Kingston upon Hull also established a flourishing commerce with the Baltic ports as part of the Hanseatic League. From its medieval beginnings, Hull's main trading links were with Scotland and northern Europe.

The George Hotel, one of the oldest surviving pubs in the city, claims to have the smallest window in England - Originally a coaching in, it was said the slit in the wall was used by the porter to look for stagecoaches and customers

On St George’s Day in 1642 King Charles I was refused entry to Kingston upon Hul. This led to the Siege of Hull, which has been described as the first major action of the English Civil War.

Kingston upon Hull is home to The Deep, which calls itself the “world’s only submarium”. Visitors may see its 3,500 fish, including sharks and manta rays, while walking under the water through a viewing tunnel.

Hull is the only place in the country not to have BT provide its telephone services. The Hull Telephone Department was launched in 1904, later becoming Kingston Communications. For 115 years, they have set Hull apart – and been a symbol of the city’s determination to do things differently.

Land of Green Ginger located off Whitefriargate sits arguably Kingston upon Hull most famous street. While the origin of the name isn't known for sure. Some believe that it simply refers to the fact that spiced ginger was sold and stored in the street during the Middle Ages.

Kingston upon Hull born J. Arthur Rank founded The Rank Organisation. Maybe not the greatest name for a company nowadays, but back then it owned five top film studios including Pinewood. Their productions included Great Expectations, In Which We Serve, Brief Encounter, and a load of Carry On series.

Hull was a major port during the Later Middle Ages and its merchants traded widely to ports in Northern Germany and the Baltic region and the Low Countries. Wool, cloth and hides were exported and timber, wine, furs and dyestuffs imported. Sir William de la Pole, a leading merchant helped establish a family prominent in government.

East Park was opened to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee and is home to a boating lake and aviaries. In 2008, the park was upgraded and now includes a splash boat, walk through aviary, and a maze. In 1862 Pearson Park opened which was Hull’s first city park. It was created in response to the requirement of green spaces in Victorian cities for the working population.
