The Fat Duck has been in Bray in Maidenhead since 1995. It is world famous for its incredible and innovative dishes and owned by Heston Blumenthal, it holds three Michelin stars. And in 2004 it was named the world's best restaurant.

A plaque is on the wall of the site of the former Greyhound Inn in Maidenhead to mark when King Charles I went there in 1647. The King was due to be executed after being found guilty of high treason, but the leader of Parliament, Thomas Fairfax allowed him to say goodbye to his children.

Maidenhead's railway bridge is the biggest in Europe, It was built by the legendary Isambard Kingdom Brunel and contains two of the widest and flattest arches ever constructed from bricks, Each is 128 feet wise and 24 feet high.

Kate Winslet is famously from Reading, but she cut her teeth as a young actress at the famous Redroofs School for the Performing Arts in Maidenhead.

Maidenhead's name stems from the riverside area where the first "New wharf" or "Maiden Hythe" was built, as early as Saxon times.

Maidenhead's local history goes back to the Stone Age. The town grew out of a small hamlet when the first bridge was built. Maidenhead became a major point on the Great West Road as it offered travellers a much more direct route from London to the West Country.

But did you know the Spice Girls started their life-changing career in Maidenhead? The girls rented out a house on Boyn Hill Road after they were put together to try and form their 'girl power' friendship. Mel B, Mel C, Victoria and Geri lived in the house.

As many as one in 20 people in Maidenhead have a wealth of more than £1m – a higher rate than any other town or city. It has 7,923 millionaires out of 152,144 people, the study suggests.

Maidenhead United Football Club (aka The Magpies) is a semi-professional football club based in Maidenhead, Berkshire, England. They are currently members of the National League, the fifth tier of English football, and have played at York Road since 1871, making it the “oldest senior football ground continuously used by the same club”

When the Great Western Railway came to the town, it began to expand. Muddy roads were replaced and public services were installed. The High Street began to change again, and substantial Victorian red brick architecture began to appear throughout the town. It became its own entity in 1894, being split from the civil parishes of both Bray and Cookham
