The famous Magic Roundabout in Swindon has been named one of the scariest road junctions in Britain alongside the Spaghetti Junction and Hanger Lane Gyratory System in West London. It's definitely a confusing one for SatNavs, but once you know how, it's generally an easy one for us Swindonians to get our heads around!

After the original facilities were destroyed by a bombing in Southampton, production of the famous Spitfire was moved to South Marston - not far from RAF Fairford where the Royal International Air Tattoo is held every July. Although only 121 were produced in Swindon, the South Marston factory were producing 70+ aircraft per month!

Ever wondered what that interesting looking concrete statue is sat in the middle of Coate Water lake in Swindon? It might be a home to ducks, geese, swans and seagulls now, but many years ago you would have seen members of the public diving off it! The diving board was built in 1935 and was a very popular attraction for local people until swimming in the lake was banned 20 years later. 

Swindon is home to some interesting and iconic buildings - featuring the Link centre, the Spectrum or Renault building and the David Murray John tower. The Spectrum building, designed by world renowned architect Norman Foster is now a listed building. It was also used in a James Bond film, a View to a Kill.

Swindon has been or still is, home to many surprising industries counting amongst them: Pressed Steel/Rover/BMW, Honda, Gerrard record decks and Spitfire planes. 

According to a forum poster on Charlton Life, “In 1994 South West Water was fined £3.5m for long term pollution of the water table. This pollution led to a strange phenomena [sic] in the 70’s and 80’s whereby a high number of females were born with particularly large mouths.

Swindon is now known for being a regional centre for business, and is home to many technological and pharmaceutical companies, aswell as having national headquarters for international companies Nationwide, Intel, and Zurich. The town is also a regional retail and leisure hub of which it boasts several facilities.

After several years fighting relegation and possibly going out of business, Swindon Town have found a stable footing under new ownership and will be looking to push for promotion once again after playoff defeat last season..
