Bournemouth Leasing Did You Know?Bournemouth, located on the southern coast of England, is a vibrant and picturesque coastal town that attracts millions of visitors each year. With its stunning beaches, beautiful parks, and rich cultural heritage, Bournemouth has something for everyone. Actress Amanda Holden once rode around Bournemouth naked on a motorbike after being dared £20 by friends. After whizzing round the block she shouted ‘say no to crack’ at a security guard. After Liverpool and London, Bournemouth is the UK town where the Beatles played the most concerts and their cover for their second album With the Beatles was a photograph taken at the Palace Court hotel in 1963. The fateful day in Bournemouth was July 12, 1910 which saw the aviation pioneer Charles Rolls, having crossed the channel by balloon in 1906, die in a horrific crash. Rolls made more than 200 flights in his Wright Flyer, made under license by Short Bros. It was a moment that could have changed the course of world history. In 1892 a young 18-year-old Winston Churchill fell from a bridge in Bournemouth. After falling 29 feet he was unconcious for three days and his injuries left him bedridden for three months. Due to the combination of pine trees and fresh sea air, Bournemouth became the perfect place for people with respiratory issues to recover and find respite. In Bournemouth, that meant encouraging people to take walks along both the beach and on Invalid’s Walk, which is now known as Pine Tree Walk. Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley was most famous for her 1818 novel, Frankenstein, and was married to the romantic poet Percy Shelley. Though Mary Shelley never lived in Bournemouth, her son was very fond of the town because of its warmer climates. She has since become the inspiration for the name of one of Bournemouth's Wetherspoon’s pubs, aptly called The Mary Shelley, located just next to St Peter’s church. Bournemouth's town hall, which used to be the Mont Dore Hotel back in 1885, held telephone number three, which was one of England's very first telephones. The luxury hotel was a place for wealthy holidaymakers as it had 122 bedrooms and Turkish baths, a winter garden, a tennis court and a concert hill. Bournemouth has two very fine piers. The Boscombe Pier was built in 1889 and renovated in 2009. It is 230 metres long and is a Grade II-listed site. It is also an award-winning pier. In 2009 the public declared it Britain’s Coolest Pier and the following year the National Piers Society declared it Pier of the Year. Bournemouth gets an average of 7.7 hours of sunshine on a summer’s day. This is well above the UK average. With 7.7 hours of sunshine a day and 7 miles of sandy beaches, it is no surprise that Bournemouth attracts over 7 million visitors a year to its sunny shores. Bournemouth was the location of England’s first public beach hut in 1909. Hut number 2359 is the oldest one and it is still there and has a blue plaque outside commemorating its place in history. There are nearly 2,000 beach huts along Bournemouth beach, which is around 10% of all the beach huts in the UK.
